Samsung Galaxy S21 Uses a New Type of Energy Efficient OLED Display

At the Samsung Galaxy S21 series launch event the company detailed that the smartphones come with a new proprietary energy-efficient OLED developed by Samsung Display.

However, we did not have a lot of information regarding the tech until now. The company’s offshoot Samsung Display, talking about the all-new generation of power-efficient OLED panels, revealed that the new tech allows it to cut the power draw by 16 percent without compromising on the brightness.

OLEDs use organic light-emitting diodes but to make the system more efficient, Samsung has designed a new material that increases the moving speed of the electrons bumping up the brightness.

A recent test carried out on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra by the GSMArena reveals that the display can get really bright and the battery runtimes do confirm Samsung’s claims.

We are unsure if Samsung will be making the new generation power-efficient OLEDs for other manufacturers or not. Maybe it will once the company is done advertising its benefits through its own products.

In other news, apart from the development of the energy-efficient OLED, Samsung’s R&D department has also developed a system to monitor the blood sugar levels in collaboration with researchers from MIT. We will get to see the new feature in the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4.
