Ever since its arrival in Pakistan, MG has been making headlines everywhere due to its proclaimed success and high demand among crossover SUV buyers. About two weeks ago, it was revealed that MG had also acquired the greenfield status to assemble cars in Pakistan.

The automaker made its debut in Pakistan in partnership with JW Motors and SAIC (its Chinese parent company) and launched the MG HS, a compact crossover SUV that competes against the Kia Sportage, the Hyundai Tucson, the DFSK Glory 580, and the Proton X70.

Shortly after the HS made its debut last year, Javed Afridi informed the media that MG had received 10,000 bookings for the HS SUV, but many experts had refuted his claim, citing various reasons regarding the demand and supply dynamics of the auto industry.

However, two weeks ago, Afridi announced on his social media that MG had sold 1000 units of the HS in Faisalabad alone. Then a week later, Afridi once again declared that MG had sold another 1000 units of MG HS SUV in Islamabad.

MG also revealed the official price for the 1.5-liter ZS crossover SUV last week, which is the second car in its lineup in Pakistan and is being marketed as the cheapest crossover SUV for Rs. 4.1 million.

MG seems to be on the cusp of becoming one of the recent success stories of the Pakistani auto sector due to its speedy progress and high demand, however, it remains to be seen whether the company continues to enjoy this success for a longer period.
