34-year old off-spinner Nauman Ali has become the 12th Pakistani to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut. Nauman rattled the South African batting line-up and finished with figures of 35 for 5 in 25.3 overs in the second innings of the first Test match at National Stadium Karachi.

Nauman at the age of 34 years and 111 days became the 7th oldest bowler and the 4th oldest spinner to take a 5-for on his Test debut. English spinner, Charles Marriott, holds the record for the oldest player to take a 5-for on Test debut at the age of 37 years and 332 days.

Medium-fast bowler, Arif Butt, was the first Pakistani to take a five wicket haul on debut. He took six wickets against Australia in 1964. Mohammad Nazir and Mohammad Zahid both took 7 wickets on their Test debuts and both the bowlers achieved the feat against New Zealand.

Nauman is the fourth Pakistani spinner to reach the hallmark. Mohammad Nazir was the first Pakistani spinner to do so, picking up 7 wickets for 99 runs against New Zealand in 1969. Shahid Afridi and Bilal Asif were the other two to take 5-wicket hauls, both against Australia. He is also the first Pakistani left-arm spinner to take a five-wicket haul on Test Debut.

Leg-spinner Yasir Shah picked up 4 wickets, while Hasan Ali picked up one wicket as South Africa only managed to score 245 runs in the second innings and have set Pakistan a target of 88 to chase in the fourth innings.
