Senior Health Official Suspended for Vaccinating VIPs in Karachi

Sindh government has suspended a senior official of the provincial health department for administering Coronavirus vaccine to politically influential individuals.

According to details, Dr. Aneela Queshhi, Deputy District Officer (DDO) at the District Health Office, had vaccinated the daughter and son-in-law of PML-N leader and former Governor Sindh, Mohammad Zubair, and their friends over the weekend.

Sindh government has also instituted an inquiry committee under the supervision of Fayyaz Abbasi, Provincial Coordinator, ECO for Immunization and Polio, which will furnish its findings in three days.

Media Coordinator to the Sindh’s Health Minister, Meeran Yousuf, has said that the Coronavirus vaccine is meant exclusively for the frontline health workers in the province at the moment.

She added that the daughter and son-in-law of the former Sindh governor were inoculated out of turn even though they were not healthcare workers and the official involved in facilitating this has been suspended.

Note that a countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign was launched last week. In the first phase of the campaign, only healthcare workers will be immunized followed by people aged 65 years or above.
