Android 12 is Taking Design Cues From iOS 14 [Images]

In September last year, Google officially launched Android 11. Soon after its release, the company started working on its next OS, Android 12. If we go by the timeline Google followed last year, the first Android 12 beta is only a few weeks away.

Here's our first look at the Android 12 redesign

However, just ahead of the release of its first beta, a bunch of screenshots shedding light on the features of the upcoming OS surfaced on the internet. The images reveal that Google will be borrowing some of the main features for Android 12 from iOS, including the privacy options.

Similar to iOS 14, Android 12 will let its users know when an app is using the microphone or camera by displaying icons in the top right corner. On tapping the icon, users will be notified which app is using either of the hardware. Moreover, it will also come with a quick way to disable the camera or mic with just a tap.

Apparently, these usage indicators will be mandated by Google to be included by all OEMs once they release their respective updates to Android 12.

The second set of screenshots show the quick setting icons. There are just four Quick Settings icons this time around. Google probably changed this to improve visibility and accessibility. However, there is plenty of empty space left. Maybe, the company will decide to fill these with other quick access icons in the final version.

Last but not least, new widgets are also on the way. The images detail a new Conversations widget that highlights recent messages, missed calls, and activity statuses. In its smallest size, this will only show one item at a time.

More details will be revealed soon.
