Electronic Arts Acquires Glu Mobile for $2.4 Billion

American game developing giant Electronic Arts (EA) is acquiring mobile game maker Glu Mobile for $2.4 billion. Glu Mobile is also an American company, but it mostly produces casual mobile games including board games and celebrity themed games. These are usually free to play, but they make money through microtransactions.

As part of the deal, all shareholders of Glu Mobile will be getting $12.50 in cash for each share they hold. This would be a 36% premium over the closing share price on February 5. The company has $364 million in net cash.

This acquisition will help EA expand its already massive player base, which is currently more than 100 million a month for mobile games. On the other hand, Glu will be able to benefit from EA’s player base. According to the press release Design Home, Covet Fashion and MLB Tap Sports Baseball are some of the company’s titles that will be able to benefit from the acquisition.

Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts said:

Mobile continues to grow as the biggest gaming platform in the world, and with the addition of Glu’s games and talent, we’re doubling the size of our mobile business. With a deep IP portfolio and an expanding global audience, we’ll deliver more exciting experiences for our players and drive further growth for Electronic Arts.
