Sir Viv Richards to Miss PSL for the First Time Since Its Inception

Sir Vivian Richards will not be a part of Quetta Gladiators this season after opting out of the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Richards has been a mentor for the Quetta Gladiators camp since the inception of the tournament. The West Indian legend has been known in Quetta’s camp as the most energetic and influential person.

Quetta Gladiators released a statement confirming his absence in the tournament.

“Quetta Gladiators mentor, Sir Vivian Richards, will not be part of the Gladiators squad in this PSL after he decided to stay home given the serious COVID situation all around the world,” the statement said.

Quetta’s players have praised the impact of Sir Vivian Richards on the team over the years and said that he played a crucial role in Quetta’s success since the inaugural edition of the tournament.

Richards opted out of the tournament due to the prevalent COVID-19 pandemic and deemed traveling to another country unsafe in these dire times.

Quetta’s owner, Nadeem Omar, expressed his sadness about Richards not being a part of their camp in PSL 6. “He was always an important person in our camp. We all will miss him, and without him, our dugout will look deserted,” Omar said.

Omar is hopeful of having Richards back in the camp once the COVID-19 situation improves. Omar said that they would try to arrange virtual sessions for players with Richards so he can motivate them to perform at their best.
