Vaccination of Senior Citizens to Start This Week

The government is set to start the COVID-19 vaccination campaign for over 65-year-old citizens this week.

According to details, 180,000 senior citizens from all over the country have registered themselves for the vaccination campaign.

Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) has declared it a slow response, given the fact that there are around 8 million people above 65 years of age.

NHS has requested senior citizens to register themselves for the vaccination drive by sending their CNIC number to 1166 or by visiting the website of the National Immunization Management System (NIMS).

Senior citizens will be vaccinated with AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Pakistan has already secured 17 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. 2.8 million doses will reach Pakistan this week while the remaining will be received by the end of June this year.

Earlier, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) warned the government of the third wave of Coronavirus after the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) last week allowed commercial activities, schools, offices, and other workplaces to operate at full strength.

PMA has recommended the government to reimpose restrictions and lift them only after vaccinating 70% of the population against the Coronavirus disease.
