Kia made a full revelation of the design of its new EV6 on Monday, ahead of its official launch which is later this month. The official debut event will reveal the features, technical details, and price of the vehicle.

The EV6 has been dubbed as Kia’s ‘first-ever dedicated battery-powered vehicle’ based on Hyundai’s new E-GMP platform. Its older sibling — the Niro crossover SUV — is often confused for the Korean automaker’s first-ever Electric Vehicle (EV) but it was offered only either as a petrol-powered or a hybrid vehicle.

In terms of looks, the EV6 borrows certain design elements from its Korean counterparts. The downward-swooping front fascia slightly resembles that of the new KIA K5, and the overall smooth silhouette mimics the new Genesis models.
The rear features a Sportback design similar to the new Aston Martin DBX SUV, and the unbroken lightbar across the back is also a design aspect of the majority of the new KIA vehicles.
Kia’s design chief, Karim Habib, stated,
EV6, as the first dedicated Kia EV, is a showcase of human-centered, progressive design and electrified power. We strongly believe EV6 is a compelling and relevant model for the new EV market, With EV6 we aimed to create a distinctive, impactful design by using a combination of sophisticated, high-tech features on pure and rich volumes, while providing a unique space as a futuristic EV.
A couple of months ago, Kia Motors introduced a new logo to signify its new goal to “establish a leadership position in the future mobility industry”. A media report added that the new brand image is also a means of ushering in a new era of EV production.
Kia also plans to invest over $25 billion to pursue more technological prowess and sophistication as part of its Plan S 5-year strategy, particularly in the EV arena, and the EV6 is evidently its first substantial step in this direction.
