Microsoft Unveils Surface Laptop 4 Starting From $999

Yesterday, Microsoft quietly unveiled its Surface Laptop 4, an updated version of the Surface laptop 3 launched last year. The new laptop comes with a spec sheet similar to its predecessor but offers more options in terms of processors with new AMD Ryzen 4000 and Intel 11th gen processors.

Design and Display

Design-wise, the Surface Laptop 4 looks exactly like its predecessor. It has a similar sleek structure and a matte paint job.

The laptop is available in a 13.5-inch model and a 15-inch model. The smaller model offers 2256 x 1504 resolution while the latter is locked at 2496 x 1664 resolution. Both models come with 10-point multi-touch support along with an optional Surface Pen and have a 3:2 aspect ratio.

The laptops are available in four colors and two material choices. You can choose from Ice Blue, Sandstone, Platinum, and Matte Black. Out of these, Ice Blue and Platinum are available with an Alcantara finish for the 13.5-inch model. The 15-inch model only comes in Platinum and Matte Black, both with a standard metal body.

Internals

As for the innards, the new Surface Laptop 4 is available in four new CPU options, two each from AMD and Intel. The available processor choices are:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 4680U
  • AMD Ryzen 7 4980U
  • Intel Core i5-1135G7
  • Intel Core i7-1185G7

The AMD-powered laptops feature Radeon Graphics whereas their Intel-powered counterparts have Intel Iris Xe Graphics.

As far as storage is concerned, you can choose from 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSD storage. For connectivity, the device is equipped with 1x USB-C, 1x USB-A, 1x Surface Connect port, 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, and Bluetooth 5.0.

Other features include a 720p webcam, dual far-field mics, and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.

Pricing and Availability

The laptop with all its configuration options will be available on sale by 15th April. As always, Microsoft has complicated configuration options and users can choose from 22 preset options. The laptop starts at $1000 for the cheapest model with an AMD CPU and $1300 for the cheapest model with an Intel CPU.
