Shahid Afridi Achieves Another Historic Milestone

Former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi, received a lifetime membership from the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Afridi took to Twitter to thank the MCC and express his delight to receive the honor.

MCC is the former governing body of cricket and was responsible for the laws of cricket before the International Cricket Council (ICC) was formed. MCC still holds global influence in regards to cricket.

The star all-rounder, despite retiring from international cricket in 2018, is still one of the most famous personalities in world cricket. Afridi said that he will play his part continue promoting cricket in various parts of the world.

Afridi wrote, “A big honour to receive MCC official lifetime membership. I want to thank the most prestigious cricket club in the world for the respect and recognition. I would continue to play my part in promotion of this wonderful sport both on and off the cricket field.”

Shahid Afridi made his international debut in 1996 and went onto play 398 ODIs, 27 Tests and 99 T20Is for Pakistan. Known for his explosive batting, Afridi completely transformed his game. He was a key member of the 2009 T20 World Cup win, scoring half-centuries in the semi-final and final of the tournament.

Afridi also finished as the leading wicket-taker in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, taking his team to the semi-final of the tournament. Afridi is still the highest T20I wicket-taker from Pakistan with 98 scalps to his name.
