Saqlain Mushtaq Weighs in on Younis Khan’s Replacement

Former off-spinner, Saqlain Mushtaq, believes that the legendary batsman, Mohammad Yousuf, would be the ideal candidate to replace Younis Khan as the batting coach of the national side.

The 44-year old said that Yousuf was a world-class player and has been exceptional as a batting coach at the National High-Performance Center (NHPC), which showcases his skills in mentoring the youngsters.

Saqlain said, “We should forget what happened in the past and move on. Yousaf was a world-class player and could be successful as batting coach as well.”

The former off-spinner is currently employed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the head of international player development at the NHPC and has worked closely with Yousuf over the past year.

Saqlain revealed that the coaches at the NHPC are unaware of the reasons behind Younis Khan’s resignation as they are currently busy with the NHPC camp.

Former batting coach, Younis Khan, was appointed for the role in November 2020 on a two-year contract. However, just a few months after his appointment, he and the Pakistan Cricket Board mutually decided to part ways.

According to the rumor mill, Younis resigned due to an altercation with the fast bowler, Hasan Ali, and because of a  poor relationship with top PCB officials.
