This will be the first time since September 2019 that England’s national side will play in front of a full house.

The decision to allow the full-capacity crowd for the second ODI was taken after the event was included in the UK government’s Event Research Programme (ERP).

The UK government’s ERP has been designed to work towards a safe way of lifting the COVID-19 related restrictions. Previously, the third ODI between Pakistan and England set to be played at Edgbaston on 13 July was allowed to be played in front of an 80 percent capacity crowd according to the ERP.

Recently, the UK government has eased the restrictions as the COVID-19 situation in the country has improved over the past few months. Spectators have been allowed to attend sporting events such as the Test cricket series between England and New Zealand, Euro 2020, and the Wimbledon.

The Test series between England and New Zealand was the first cricket event allowed to be played in front of a crowd, with only 20-25 percent capacity of the total capacity allowed.
