PDMA Issues Warning for Heavy Rains and Floods

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has directed relevant authorities to remain on high alert and take all necessary precautionary measures during this week’s monsoon spell in the province.

In an official statement, PDMA, while quoting Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), said that widespread thunderstorm and rain of moderate to heavy intensity is expected over the catchments of all the major rivers along with North, Northeast Punjab and DG Khan divisions from 27 to 30 July.

As a result, high floods are expected in Jhelum River at upstream Mangla and in Chenab River at Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad from 28 to 30 July.

In a separate development, Chief Minister Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar, visited PDMA Punjab’s head office on Monday to inspect the control room established for monitoring the monsoon season and possible flood situation.

During the visit, PDMA Punjab officials briefed CM Punjab about the situation of rivers, the weather forecasting system, arrangements for dealing with the flood-related situation, and relief activities.

CM lauded the arrangements made by the PDMA and issued orders to remain fully vigilant and continuously monitor the inflow and outflow of water in rivers and the weather conditions.
