Azhar Ali and Zafar Gohar Signed for England’s County Championship

Pakistan’s veteran Test batsman, Azhar Ali and young all-rounder, Zafar Gohar will take part in the remainder of the County Championship season.

Azhar Ali will return to Somerset for his third stint and will take part in the last three matches of the County Championship, while Zafar Gohar will take part in the County Championship for the first time in his career after signing with Gloucestershire Cricket.

Gohar is set to make his debut for the county in the upcoming encounter against Northamptonshire scheduled to commence from 30 August at Bristol City Ground.

The young left-arm spinner expressed his delight at signing for the second division county side.

He stated, “Having spent a lot of time in the UK in the past few years, it is a real dream come true to have the opportunity to play county cricket. Gloucestershire is a fantastic club with a rich history, and I’m looking forward to hopefully playing my part in ensuring the season finishes on a high.”

Meanwhile, Azhar Ali will return to Somerset for the third time after having played for them in 2018 and 2019. Azhar has been one of Somerset’s most successful batsmen over the past few years. He has scored over 800 runs in 17 matches for the side with a best of 125. He was instrumental in Somerset’s One Day Cup title-winning campaign in 2019.

Azhar said that Somerset has become like his second home and is delighted to rejoin his teammates for yet another season. He added that he is looking forward to a successful campaign and play his part in the success of the club.
