Islamabad District Administration has decided to regulate the entry of heavy transport vehicles (HTV) in the capital city by banning the entry of unauthorized vehicles.
HTVs like dumpers and oil tankers will be allowed to enter Islamabad through various checkpoints with the permission of the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA).
A spokesperson for the ITA told the media yesterday that commercial vehicles such as oil tankers, dumpers, and pickup trucks will be allowed to enter the district between 11 PM and 7 AM only. He added that the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) will ensure strict compliance with these orders.
The spokesperson elaborated that specified vehicles will not use Srinagar Highway (formerly called ‘Kashmir Highway’) but will have to enter Islamabad via IJP Road, Murree Road, and Islamabad Expressway.
“The oil tankers shall use IJP Road via Faizabad, and thereafter they shall proceed to their respective points via 9th Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, and Margalla Road,” he said.

Vehicles carrying construction materials will enter Islamabad Chowk on IJP Road and will proceed to their destinations via 9th Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, and Margalla Road. Commercial vehicles will use IJP Road and the expressway as transit routes where the police will check the movement of vehicles.
Vehicles carrying construction material will be searched, and a record of the driver’s name, CNIC, vehicle registration number, the details of goods being transported, and pickup and delivery points will be kept by the ITA.
