Pakistan Railways Bars Unvaccinated Individuals From Train Travel

Pakistan Railways (PR) announced on Thursday that unvaccinated people will not be allowed to take the railway journey from 15 September.

In a statement on Thursday, a PR spokesperson said that passengers should be at least partially vaccinated in order to get railways tickets after 15 September.

However, after 15 October, only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to board the trains, the spokesperson said, adding that strict action will be taken against those found commuting in the trains without getting their jabs.

The spokesperson stated that PR is taking these measures to encourage passengers to get vaccinated.

Last month, the railway department had announced that unvaccinated passengers over the age of 20 will not be allowed to travel on trains from 1 January 2022. However, the deadline has been reset to 15 October.

The department had also announced to charge unvaccinated people 10 percent extra on train tickets from 1 September.

Meanwhile, the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has already banned the entry of unvaccinated people on motorways from 15 September.

The NHMP announced last week that people should “get ready” and “get vaccinated” before the deadline and carry their vaccination certificates with them.

Note that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had last month banned domestic travel for unvaccinated passengers.
