According to reports, the left-arm pacer, Mohammad Amir, has decided to take back his international retirement after the sudden resignation of Pakistan’s head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, and bowling coach, Waqar Younis.
Amir retired from all forms of international cricket in December 2020, citing mental torture by the national team management as the reason behind his decision. He said that he had been mentally tortured by Misbah and Waqar, and he could no longer play under their management. Amir said that he would only be available for selection when both the coaches leave.
Now according to a private media channel, Amir has made himself available for selection once again.
The 29-year old will be aiming to make it to Pakistan’s squad for the T20 World Cup. Although the official squad for the mega event was announced on Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has allowed every team to make changes to their squad till 10 October. Any changes made after the deadline would require approval from the ICC committee.
All may not be lost for Amir as he could still be called up to the World Cup squad if the Chief Selector, Mohammad Wasim, decides to give him another chance.
Amir is currently taking part in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where he looks to have regained some form. He has played 4 matches in the competition and has picked up 6 wickets at an average of 13.16 and an exceptional economy rate of 5.51.
