CNG Prices Rise in Punjab and Sindh

The domino effect of the depreciation of the Rupee is being felt by all of Pakistan’s industries, with Chairman of the All Pakistan CNG Association (APCA) Ghiyas Paracha announcing that the prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) have been increased in Sindh and Punjab with immediate effect.

He clarified that CNG prices have been raised for all vendors who are dependent on imported Reliquified Natural Gas (RLNG) in the two provinces.

Paracha added that the prices have been upped by Rs. 15 per kg and Rs. 8 per liter in Sindh and Punjab respectively. It is now available in Sindh for Rs. 184 per kg, and for Rs. 124 per liter in Punjab.

He explained that this increase in price is due to “the increase in sales tax and expensive purchase of spot market” caused by the appreciation of the US Dollar against the Pakistani Rupee.

The chairman appealed to the government to reduce the sales tax on the import of LNG as it had done for the import of Petrol and Liquified Petroleum Gas.

He reiterated his own rationale in the current statement, adding that CNG should be made more affordable for the marginalized commuters of Pakistan. “The fuel of the poor should be made cheaper,” he demanded.
