Harbhajan Singh Opens Up on Gifts He Used to Get From Shahid Afridi

Former Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh, has disclosed that he had a good friendship with Shahid Afridi and Saqlain Mushtaq and that he accepted many presents from them during his playing days.

Speaking in an interview regarding his relations with Pakistani players, he said “I had friends in the Pakistan team as well. They used to bring me Punjabi dramas and Peshwari jutti. Lala (Afridi) used to bring me those things.”

Border tensions between India and Pakistan have also had an impact on cricket between the two countries, as they have only played in ICC events since their last meeting in a bilateral series in India in 2012-13.

In response to a question on his off-the-field interactions with Pakistani players, Harbhajan stated that he had a close friendship with Saqlain Mushtaq and that they discussed cricket a lot whenever they met outside the ground.

Harbhajan Singh, who made his Test debut in 1998, also mentioned the historic Test between India and Pakistan in which Anil Kumble took ten wickets in a single inning, a record that still stands.

“That was the only time when I felt relieved I didn’t get a wicket. Because taking 10 wickets is a big deal. After he took 6-7 wickets, I was like, ‘I hope I don’t get a wicket. He should get all the wickets now,” the former off-spinner concluded.
