The government around midnight announced an increase in prices of petroleum products despite a decrease in oil prices in the international market and the rally of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar.
The price of petrol (MS) has been increased by Rs. 2.07 per liter, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been increased by Rs. 2.99. The new price of petrol will be Rs. 235.98 while the new price of diesel will be Rs. 247.43.
The price of kerosene has been increased by Rs. 10.92 per liter to Rs. 210.32, while the price of light diesel oil has been increased by Rs. 9.79 per liter to Rs. 201.54. The new prices will be effective from September 1.

The rupee closed at a historic low of 239.94 against the dollar on July 28. However, the rupee has since regained over Rs. 20 against the dollar closing at 218.75 in the interbank market today (Wednesday).
Oil prices also extended their slide on Wednesday on worries that the global economy could slow further with Brent crude futures for October down to $96.80 a barrel.
At the last fortnightly review, the government had increased the price of petrol while marginally decreasing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD).
