Gillespie emphasized the abundant talent within the team but identified inconsistency as a massive problem. “The Pakistan cricket team is very talented, but the lack of consistency in performances is the main problem. We will see how we can bring continuity and consistency in performances,” he stated.

Highlighting fitness as a non-negotiable aspect of international cricket, Gillespie stressed that maintaining top physical condition is crucial. “In international cricket, you have to remain fit; there are no excuses for fitness,” he asserted, underlining his commitment to rigorous fitness standards.

The former Australian cricketer also revealed that he had productive discussions with Shan Masood, Pakistan’s red-ball captain, expressing optimism about playing a positive brand of cricket.

Moreover, Gillespie plans to engage with players to understand their preferred playing style and aims to tailor team selection based on opposition and conditions.

Gillespie’s arrival marks a new chapter for Pakistan’s Test team, with hopes pinned on his experience and strategic vision to enhance the team’s performance and consistency on the international stage.

He emphasized that his focus is Pakistan’s red-ball cricket team and he will also travel to Australia with the Shaheens and watch their players.

Pakistan’s red-ball coach identified fielding as a weak point for Pakistan and made it his priority to improve it. The Men in Green will play 9 Tests in season 2024-2025.
