China’s enthusiasm for the Xiaomi SU7 electric car remains strong, with second-hand models sometimes fetching prices higher than their original cost.
A blogger named Li Dazhui demonstrated this phenomenon in a video released on July 23, where he sold his Xiaomi SU7 Max Founders Edition. Li decided to sell his car after a friend informed him that the model was selling second-hand for more than he had originally paid. The scarcity of the Founders Edition, which is no longer available, contributes to the high resale value.
Li owned the car for about three months, driving it over 3,600 km. The vehicle had been involved in a minor rear-end collision, which caused some damage. In his video, Li shows a screenshot from an app displaying various second-hand prices for the Xiaomi SU7. Prices for the Founders Edition ranged from 343,000 yuan (47,150 USD) for a car with 600 km on the odometer to 335,000 yuan (46,050 USD) for one with 1,900 km.
Xiaomi SU7 Max originally sold for 299,900 yuan (41,500 USD). This special Founders Edition was limited to the first 5,000 orders for both the Max and Standard versions of the SU7 and included free upgrades like Nappa leather, 25 speakers, and a car fridge.
Despite the damage to his vehicle, Li ultimately accepted an offer of 280,000 yuan (38,500 USD) from a second-hand car center in Beijing. He remarked on the impressive residual value of the Xiaomi SU7, noting that it retained nearly its original price after four months of use.
Currently, three versions of the Xiaomi SU7 are available, each with distinct features. The Standard and Pro versions feature 400V architecture, with the Pro offering a larger battery capacity and a range of up to 830 km.
The Max version is a significant upgrade, featuring an 800V architecture, dual motors, and a Lidar-based ADAS system. Prices for these models range from 215,900 yuan (29,900 USD) to 299,900 yuan (41,500 USD). Recently, a prototype of the new SU7 Ultra was unveiled, with sales expected to begin in 2025.
