The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has launched an extensive crackdown on milk sellers across the province, following the conclusion of a comprehensive milk sample collection and testing campaign. This initiative aims to eliminate substandard and adulterated milk from KP, ensuring public access to high-quality, safe milk.
The detailed analysis of milk samples has prompted intensified actions against milk sellers identified in the “black” and “red” categories. According to a spokesperson from the Food Authority, a total of 72 milk-related businesses have been sealed across the province.
In the Peshawar division, under the supervision of Director General of Food Authority Wasif Saeed and Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Salim Akram, 23 milk shops were sealed. Additional raids were conducted in other regions, resulting in the closure of 14 shops in the Mardan Division, 8 in Swat, 21 in Hazara, 1 in Kohat, and 5 in DI Khan.
The crackdown also included revoking licenses of milk sellers in the “black” and “red” categories and imposing heavy fines. Director General Wasif Saeed emphasized that stricter disciplinary measures would be enforced against individuals involved in milk adulteration or those obstructing official duties.
During the 10-day campaign, the KP Food Authority collected and tested 583 milk samples from large and medium-sized dairy businesses throughout the province. The results revealed a concerning trend: approximately 93% of the samples, equating to 541, were found to be substandard and hazardous to health, while only 7% or 42 samples met satisfactory standards.
