Chinese phone maker giant Vivo has said it will start making mixed reality (MR) headsets in 2025. This comes after the company talked about the future of phone cameras at a recent event called the Imaging Festival in China.
Vivo’s vice president Hu Baishan said earlier this year that MR is the next big thing in mobile technology and Vivo has now finally confirmed plans to launch its very first MR headset.
Vivo isn’t new to the world of fancy glasses. They made their first AR glasses in 2019, but you needed a 5G phone to use them.
We hope their new MR glasses will be better and work on their own, like Apple’s recently launched Vision Pro headset. But we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, knowing Vivo’s usual pricing schemes, their first MR headset shouldn’t be as nearly expensive as Apple’s $3,499 alternative.
Vivo is doing well in selling phones in China, with almost 20% of the market. Their high-end phones are also popular. This success is giving them the power to try new things, like making smart glasses.
Other big phone companies like Huawei and Oppo are also said to be working on similar glasses, but nothing is official yet.
Additionally, Vivo showed off its latest camera tech at the recent Imaging Festival. The company said its next top-of-the-line phones, probably called the Vivo X200 series, will have special camera parts made by Vivo, which will include an in-house Blueprint image sensor, Blueprint Algorithm Matrix, and Blueprint Imaging chip.
