Heavy Rains to Cause Flooding and Landslides in Northern Pakistan

As the monsoon system moves into the northern regions, warnings have been issued for possible flooding and landslides. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that this weather pattern, coming from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, is now affecting these areas.

The incoming monsoon system is predicted to bring heavy rains, which may lead to flooding in rivers and streams in areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, and Shangla.

There are also warnings about potential flooding in local streams across Buner, Bannu, Kurram, Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, and Swabi.

The authority added that Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and northeastern Punjab are at risk of local stream flooding. Hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Suleiman Range, and Kirthar Range might also cause flooding.

Furthermore, heavy rains could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Nowshera, and Peshawar.

Additionally, increased water levels in rivers and streams are expected.

The monsoon system may trigger landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities, including the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and other relevant agencies, have been instructed to stay ready for possible emergencies.
