Pakistan’s premier squash player, Nasir Iqbal, has claimed the Bega Open 2024 squash title in Australia, marking another milestone in his distinguished career.
In the final match, Iqbal delivered a commanding performance, defeating Hong Kong’s second-seed Matthew Lai with scores of 11-6, 11-1, and 11-3.
The match, which lasted a mere 24 minutes, showcased Iqbal’s exceptional skill and dominance on the court. This victory brings his career total to 17 titles and earns him a prize of $12,000.
Iqbal’s recent form has been remarkable, winning four out of his last five tournaments. The Squash player is now set to compete in upcoming tournaments in Malaysia.
The path to the final saw Iqbal overcome Switzerland’s Robin Gadola in a gripping semi-final. After winning the first game, Iqbal faced a challenge as Gadola equalized in the second.
However, Iqbal’s superior skills shone through as he decisively won the next two games, concluding the match with scores of 6-11, 11-4, 2-11, and 3-11.
This year has seen Iqbal in outstanding form, consistently improving his PSA rankings. He is currently ranked 116th globally, reflecting his impressive progress and dedication to the sport.
