Free Wi-Fi services under the ‘CM Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi’ initiative have expanded to Nankana Sahib, following their successful launch in Lahore and Kasur.
This initiative, aligned with the Punjab Chief Minister’s vision of public safety and accessibility, aims to provide free internet access to citizens across the province.
In addition to Nankana Sahib, plans are underway to install these services at 250 more locations within Lahore. The initial rollout in Nankana Sahib covers five key public areas, including Masjid Chowk, Tehsil Morr Chowk, Kutchehry Rail Crossing, and the railway station.
Since its launch, the service has been utilized by approximately 25,000 people in the city, with a total data consumption of 250GB.
Kasur also has free Wi-Fi services at ten locations, including the District Headquarters Hospital, Women’s College, New Bus Terminal, railway station, Model Bazaar, DC Office Chowk, and National Bank Chowk. The city is slated to receive Wi-Fi services at an additional 20 locations as per the Chief Minister’s directives.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming response to the free Wi-Fi initiative in Lahore, which has over five million beneficiaries to date. She said:
Very soon people in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala too will be able to avail the facility. The Safe City Authority will be set up in 18 cities of Punjab by the end of this year.
She emphasized the service’s significance for women and female students, particularly in emergencies.
