Top Order Afghanistan Batter Handed 5 Year Ban for Breaching Anti-Corruption Codes

Top-order Afghanistan batter Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all cricket activities for five years due to breaches of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and ICC Anti-Corruption Codes during the second Kabul Premier League (KPL) season.

Jannat was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which pertains to attempts to improperly influence or fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match.

Following this serious violation, he has received a five-year suspension from all cricket-related activities. Janat has confessed to the charges and acknowledged his involvement in corrupt practices.

The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has disclosed that investigations are ongoing against three other players suspected of participating in match-fixing. I will make sure to determine further actions after their involvement is confirmed.

Janat’s ban is effective immediately, starting from the release of this statement by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, and will extend for the next five years.

The Afghanistan batter has represented his country in 3 Test matches, 16 ODIs, and one T20I match. He played his last international match on June 14, 2022 against Zimbabwe.
