Punjab Changes School Timings and Holiday Policy

On Saturday, the Punjab government declared a new policy of two weekly holidays for schools across the province.

Starting August 15, all schools in Punjab will observe holidays on both Saturdays and Sundays, according to an announcement from the Department of School Education Punjab.

The new policy is designed to alleviate teachers’ workloads and create a more balanced work schedule. According to the notification, single-shift schools will operate from Monday to Thursday, with classes running from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

New School Timings for Students

  • Single Shift Schools:
    • Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM
    • Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Double Shift/Afternoon Schools:
    • Monday to Thursday:
      • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
      • Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM
    • Friday:
      • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
      • Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Revised Working Hours for Teachers

  • Single Shift Schools:
    • Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
    • Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Double Shift/Afternoon Schools:
    • Monday to Thursday:
      • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
      • Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM
    • Friday:
      • Morning Shift: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
      • Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Alternate Saturdays: 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon

Summer vacations for schools in Punjab will end on August 14, and classes will resume on August 15.
