Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has made a bold prediction about the batting maestro Babar Azam, asserting that the 29-year-old will return to form spectacularly by scoring five centuries over the next five months.
Babar, who has been under fire for his recent performances in the ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024, is expected to bounce back now that he no longer bears the burden of captaincy.
In a recent statement, Basit expressed confidence in Babar’s abilities, suggesting that the removal of captaincy pressure will allow the talented batter to refocus on his game.
“Babar Azam will score five centuries in the coming five months. He has the best chance to leave the top batters like Kane Williamson and Joe Root behind. It is a very easy chance,” Basit remarked.
Basit, who is known for his forthright opinions, also provided some technical advice to Babar, advising him to adjust his wide batting stance. Drawing comparisons with Indian star Virat Kohli, Basit noted that Babar could benefit from shortening his stance by a few inches, emphasizing that both players share a similar height.
The former cricketer further recommended that Babar should incorporate skipping into his training regimen, a tip he received from legendary Pakistan batter Zaheer Abbas. According to Basit, this would improve Babar’s foot movement and help him regain his batting form.
Babar Azam will prepare for the upcoming Bangladesh Test series, all eyes will be on whether the prolific run-scorer can live up to fans’ expectations and rediscover his best.
Pakistan’s Test series against Bangladesh will begin on August 21 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
