IT Minister Blames Excessive Use of VPNs for Slow Internet in Pakistan

Minister of State for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima on Sunday blamed the increased use of virtual private networks (VPNs) for the prevalent internet slowdown in the country.

During a press conference today, she tried to assure that the federal government has not deliberately shut down or slowed the internet and placed the full blame on VPNs. She said excessive VPN usage can slow connections by routing data through remote servers.

The minister didn’t particularly try to address any updates about the new national firewall for controlling social media.

She discussed the progress in Pakistan’s IT sector under her tenure so far, including the highest IT exports in the country’s history, for which she credited the youth.

The minister announced several initiatives, including the establishment of two new IT parks in Islamabad and Karachi, the creation of 250 e-employment centers nationwide, and the launch of programs for teaching coding skills in five languages from the primary level. She said there’s a plan to introduce 5G technology to everyone across the country, expand internet infrastructure with four new cables, and develop a virtual production studio.

The minister also noted the government’s efforts in digitalizing national databases like the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) and implementing QR codes at over one million locations across Pakistan to simplify payment processes and improve tax collection. Shaza was optimistic about the future and targeted digital innovations to bring widespread benefits to the economy and the lives of all citizens.

  • “Shaza Fatima on Sunday blamed the increased use of virtual private networks (VPNs) for the prevalent internet slowdown in the country”

Her dumb comment signifies the low quality drugs she is taking.

  • This statement of this woman is telling how capable these people are, this government has placed incompetent and ignorant people in every institution, who are ruining every institution.

  • How dumb is this statement that Internet is slow due to VPN usage. Does this woman feel any kind of responsibility. Is she living in another world?
People are loosing their source of income. These nonsense and stupid statement will never be accepted by the people of Pakistan.
Seems these people are on a mission to destroy us.

  • blaming VPNs for slow internet connection is like blaming high usage of solar panels for electric loadshedding.

  • OMG !!!! who’s she how come she’s IT minister…. she doesn’t have basic knowledge of IT… and give us lame excuse… damn we’re in doomed era !!!

  • Nepotism hire ‘IT Minister’

I think your average rickshaw driver will be more qualified for the position than this bimbo

  • ایسے ہی ہوتا ہے جب آپ ان لوگوں کو آئی ٹی منسٹر بناتے ہو جن کو اپنا جی میل اکاؤنٹ بنانا بھی نہ آتا ہو۔

  • She has never worked in any IT industry. She has no degree in IT or engineering. She is a minister because she is a close associate of Upper ranks of Pmln leaders. So why she should take her seriously. She has no credentials to talk on IT issues at all

  • I was wondering how she spend time while at uni, since she thinks all nerds are dumb. But she got a point saying VPNs cause internet slow down, after they started anyalzing packets and ppl start using VPNs so they had to figure out another way which may caused slow down but its just an opinion, nerds out there may know much better and she is not a good liar so politcs isn’t for her

  • Koi is bewakoof aurat ko bataey k logon ko VPN use hi isliay krna pra kyunkay is ki govt ne whatsapp images aur voice notes tak BAN kiay huay they jiski waja se logon ko majbooran VPN use krna prr raha tha. Aik se aik namoona bewakoof betha hai minister ban k. Lakh di lanat

  • It isn’t her fault as someone with a Master’s degree in Political Science would have no idea what stories her boys have been telling her. What’s funnier is that those who had no idea what VPN was earlier are now fully acquainted with it. The govt can take full credit of it with pride

  • Little knowledge is a dangerous thing. VPN makes your data transfer fast not slow if selected carefully.

  • What a bunch of idiots running this country. Imagine these people are our policy makers.

  • This is totally absurd,
First thing first, VPNs don’t slow down the whole network. YES, they do slowdown the device’s connection on which they’re being used. However it’s just because of the way a VPN works.

Secondly, just like another guy said; It’s funny how these people didn’t even know what a VPN is and now suddenly, they’re fully acquainted with it.

It’s not their fault, the ones telling them all this shit don’t have a clue also.

One thing is clear, the higher ups in Pakistan don’t know a thing about the tech landscape.

JFF, I think they pressed a wrong key while tinkering with the Network and now can’t figure out what went wrong.;)

  • The IT minister giving dump answers is astonishing. How can someone using a VPN slow down internet of someone not using it??? Beggars belief!!!
With such incompetent ministers we are sure doomed. Kick her out!!!

  • I think LUMS should refund her the money for all of her fees. Can’t believe a LUMS grad with no basic IT knowledge.

  • This is called ugly face with ugly soul, cure lumss also they are producing shit heads like her.

  • Please allocate the IT Ministry to a competent IT person so that he or she can explain and prove technically – politically influenced people cannot do anything, only passing from LUMS doesnt make a person competent who can run IT Ministry.
