Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and has named Fatima Sana the skipper of the squad, with the tournament set to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3 to October 20.
Initially scheduled for Bangladesh, the tournament was relocated to the UAE due to ongoing political instability in Bangladesh.
In a significant move, 22-year-old Fatima Sana has been named the new captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team, replacing veteran all-rounder Nida Dar.
Sana, who has already garnered experience with 41 ODIs and 40 T20Is under her belt, led Pakistan to a notable ODI victory against New Zealand in December 2023.
Her appointment as captain was a unanimous decision by the women’s national selection committee.
The PCB’s squad selection retained 10 players from the 2023 edition, including key figures like Aliya Riaz, Muneeba Ali, and Nashra Sundhu.
Uncapped left-arm pacer Tasmia Rubab has been included in the final 15, signaling the board’s confidence in young talent. Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal’s inclusion is conditional, pending her fitness.
The squad features only one change from the lineup that competed in the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024, with Sadaf Shams replacing Najiha Alvi.
As the team prepares for the mega-event, the PCB’s decisions reflect a blend of experience and emerging talent aimed at achieving success on the global stage.
