The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police has inaugurated a one-window centre dedicated to serving motorcyclists. This initiative eliminates the previous 42-day waiting period required to transition from a learning permit to a permanent driving license.
The decision to implement this one-window operation follows a directive from the Additional Inspector General of Police Traffic Punjab, who called for a crackdown on unlicensed motorcycle riders and the introduction of more efficient licensing procedures.
Under the new system, motorcyclists can now receive their driving licenses on the same day they apply, provided they bring their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). This change is expected to significantly reduce the number of unlicensed riders on the roads.
Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima emphasized the simplicity and efficiency of the new process, stating, “Bring your CNIC with you and get the motorcycle driving license the same day.”
Despite the launch occurring on a Sunday, the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police Headquarters’ licensing branch witnessed a large turnout of motorcyclists eager to take advantage of the new facility. The high demand underscores the public’s need for a more accessible and expedited licensing process.
To further assist applicants, a separate facilitation desk has been established at the centre, ensuring that the process remains smooth and efficient for all visitors.
The initiative also addresses broader safety concerns, as a significant number of motorcyclists have been operating without licenses and neglecting essential safety measures, such as wearing helmets. By making licenses more accessible, the City Traffic Police aims to encourage responsible driving practices and improve overall road safety.
