Kid Influenced by Violence on TikTok Kills Teacher in Peshawar

A shopkeeper in Qissa Khwani Bazar, Peshawar named Sheikh Adnan, found himself the victim of a tragic crime allegedly fueled by violent content consumed on TikTok. The perpetrator, Mukhtar, was Adnan’s apprentice for a decade, starting as a young boy seeking honest work.

However, in recent times, Mukhtar’s behavior took a dark turn. He became increasingly drawn to violent content on platforms like TikTok and in Pashto films. This exposure, according to those who knew him, led to a drastic change in his demeanor, resulting in frequent fights and disturbances in his community.

Concerned by this alarming shift, Sheikh Adnan dismissed Mukhtar from his apprenticeship six months ago. This decision, unfortunately, festered resentment in the young man, ultimately culminating in a fatal confrontation over a mere 500 rupees.

According to police reports, Mukhtar had been a frequent visitor to the shop in recent days, pleading with Adnan to be reinstated to his former position. However, Adnan had already hired a replacement. In a fit of rage, he drew a pistol and shot Adnan. The shopkeeper was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries after fighting for his life for 24 hours.

Local authorities have apprehended Mukhtar and initiated a formal investigation into the incident. An FIR has been registered at Kabuli Police Station as the community grapples with this shocking act of violence.

Police in Peshawar are raising concerns about the potential negative influence of social media platform TikTok on young people, citing a disturbing trend in recent crimes. According to officials, three young men from the city have lost their lives in separate incidents directly linked to issues stemming from TikTok use.
