PTA Begins Registering VPN IP Addresses for Freelancers and Software Houses

A delegation of Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) visited PTA Headquarters, today, to discuss and deliberate on the facilitation of freelancers.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman extended a warm welcome to the PAFLA delegation and apprised that PTA is proactively working on ease of doing business for the IT sector. In this regard, IP addresses for VPNs are being registered for software houses, banks, businesses and freelancers to ensure that in case of any access disruption in the country, businesses are not affected.

VPN Registration is an easy online and free-of-cost process that takes 2 to 3 days. The PTA team also discussed initiatives for awareness of freelancers and businesses on the subject through interactive sessions, webinars, podcasts, and tutorials.

President & CEO PAFLA Tufail Ahmed Khan appreciated PTA for extending support and taking positive initiatives for uninterrupted connectivity to the freelancers.

  • Why VPN registration for a few selected categories? What is the logic behind this discriminatory move? Can PTA explain? Does PTA plan to keep torturing the remaining 240 million Pakistanis on one pretext or the other by denying them stable internet on a permanent basis?

    • Asa ho ni skta bhi. Agr asa hota to Jo Russia, china Hy vo na kr laty. Bas 1 to ye jahal an parh or oper sy sikhty bi Nii. Itni aham position pr bethya hova

  • What about the cybersecurity concerns that come with sharing VPN details with a 3rd party? A lot has been written about that already on mainstream news articles.

An example of businesses being affected by this is US medical billing houses. There are over 200 small to enterprise level billing houses in Lahore alone. These companies bring in millions (if not tens of millions) in foreign cash inflow every month. These billing houses rely on VPNs to access US insurance company portals that are region locked amd cannot be accessed from Pakistani IPs. But more importantly, they share a lot of PHI (patient health info). From patient name, address dob etc down to intricate medical details like diagnosis, procedure, dispensed medication, etc.
In Pakistan, we do not hesitate much providing our medical information to strangers but in other countries it is considered highly sensitive info.
Now as a medical practice owner in US would you feel comfortable giving business to a country where they know the VPN IPs are shared with 3rd parties and they can read that data anytime, and use it to their advantage whenever they like? I would not feel comfortable.

Please please please think these things through, one uneducated decision can eradicate a growing industry completely and hundreds of thousands will be out of jobs, along with losing a significant inflow of foreign cash, and potential foreign investments. And THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE there are so many businesses that rely on this.

  • Can anyone tell me k major general sahab ki IT k department mein kya skills aur degrees hain jis ki bunyad pe wo chairman PTA banaey gaey hain?

  • PTA is a mafia nothing else when will these people grow how much more damage they want most intelligent people have left Pakistan because of these government gangs. May Allah help Pakistan.

  • Facilitating the people who bring in foreign exchange is a nice move.

Stopping people specially the youth from engaging/contributing in hateful political narratives of one party or another 24/7 is crucial. Nothing good, ever, comes out of hateful political content.

Warna VPN kyoun chahiye masses ko? 🙂 Everyone knows the answer.

This helps in curbing the “digital toxicity”, which unfortunately is turning into a qaumi pass time and depriving the youth of a positive mental state and productive future.

So I would say, nice move PTA. Dair ayad, lekin durust ayad!

  • People doesn’t trust on the institutions now. Bcz there are no equal rights. Instead working for the benefits of Pakistani people they are working only for self interest. We are moving opposite of the World and World needs. Please do which is better for the people of Homeland not for your own business and your ego.
We are with you if think and work for the prosperity of Pakistan and Pakistani people. Thanks

  • What about the Father of all VPNs ? The VPN types which use countries services based on region from a pool of nearby countries and amongst that country they use DHCP from a subnet to allocate an ip on the go. Are they going to allow whole subnets ? Or are they going to block complete subnets ? Are they going to monitor the traffic (which they cant) so what does this move serve them ?

  • The incompetent government always find a solution of illegal action taken, by giving it a legal cover. Two wrongdoings can not make one right move.
