Pakistan-England cricket series, part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25, faces potential relocation due to ongoing stadium renovations in Pakistan.
The series is set to commence on October 7 in Multan, followed by matches in Karachi and Rawalpindi. However, ongoing construction work in Rawalpindi, as well as other cities like Lahore and Karachi, is causing logistical challenges for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
These developments are part of Pakistan’s preparations for hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, but pausing the work to accommodate the series could delay crucial readiness for the mega-event.
Additionally, the anticipated arrival of England’s Barmy Army fan group further complicates the situation, as holding the matches without spectators is not a feasible option.
The PCB is now considering alternative venues, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerging as the preferred choice.
However, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20, overlaps with the series schedule, leaving Abu Dhabi as the only possible UAE venue.
Sri Lanka is also being considered as a backup option. Discussions between the PCB and the England Cricket Board (ECB) are ongoing, and a final decision is expected in the coming days.
