Emerging Talent Hannan Shahid Shines at the Asian Hockey Championship

While hockey is the national sport of Pakistan, it often does not receive as much attention as cricket. The team has faced challenges, including inadequate facilities and frequent management changes, which contrast sharply with the resources available to international teams and other sports like cricket.

Hannan Shahid, a rising star in both the junior and senior national teams, has emerged as one of the most talented players since starting his career in 2021. Coming from a family of hockey players, Hannan has quickly made his mark in the sport. He was named the Emerging Player of Asia in 2022 & 2023 and led the team as captain in the Junior World Cup Joho Bahru. Additionally, he was recognized as the best player in the Junior Asian Cup.

In an interview, He mentioned: “In terms of performance, we are almost on par with top international teams, but there is a significant gap in facilities and support.”
