The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has taken strict action against hotels failing to implement the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS), issuing heavy penalties.
On Thursday, the PRA announced fines for multiple hotels that refused to install the system, as part of an ongoing effort to boost tax compliance.
According to a PRA spokesperson, the penalties were imposed on several five-star hotels, each fined Rs100,000 for failing to adhere to the new system requirements. PRA Chairman Nauman Yousaf emphasized the importance of the EIMS in streamlining tax collection, ensuring greater transparency, and curbing tax evasion in the hospitality sector.
The non-compliant hotels have been given a one-month grace period to install the system, with warnings of doubled fines for any further delays. Despite prior notices and awareness sessions, some businesses have remained non-compliant, leading to this enforcement action. Show-cause notices have been served to the violators.
Furthermore, restaurants that have installed EIMS but failed to issue receipts have also been cautioned. The system is mandatory for restaurants with an annual income of Rs6 million or more, according to PRA regulations.
