Mohammad Amir Surpasses Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Record in T20s

Pakistani left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir has set a new benchmark in Twenty20 internationals (T20s) by breaking the record for the most maidens bowled by a pacer. Amir achieved this milestone while representing the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.

During Thursday’s match against the Barbados Royals, Amir showcased his exceptional bowling skills. Tasked with defending 177 runs, Amir opened the bowling for the Falcons and delivered a maiden over to the hard-hitting batter Rakheem Cornwall, conceding only a leg-bye off the final delivery. This performance brought Amir’s tally to 25 maiden overs in T20 cricket, surpassing the previous record of 24 maidens held by India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Amir’s latest achievement places him third on the all-time list of most maidens bowled in T20s. He trails only Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, who has bowled 26 maidens, and West Indies’ Sunil Narine, who leads with 30 maidens. However, Amir tops the list of fast bowlers to bowl the most maiden overs in the shortest format of the game, surpassing not one but two of India’s top fast bowlers – Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. This record further cements Amir’s reputation as one of the top bowlers in the T20 format, adding to his impressive career milestones.
