Champions One Day Cup Mentor Leaves Midway to Attend Charity Event

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has temporarily left his role as a mentor of the UMT Markhors team to attend charity events in the United States.

This development, reported on Saturday, comes amidst the ongoing Champions Cup, where Misbah’s presence was highly anticipated.

Sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that Misbah’s departure was pre-approved, as he had informed the board of his prior commitments before accepting the mentorship role.

The PCB emphasized that Misbah’s participation in these charity events was scheduled well in advance, and his temporary absence was accounted for in his contract.

Despite the official approval, Misbah’s decision has sparked a wave of criticism on social media. Fans and critics alike have questioned his commitment to the team, arguing that his responsibilities in the Champions Cup should take precedence, especially given the substantial remuneration he receives as a mentor.

The UMT Markhors, who recently suffered a 35-run defeat against the Lions, remain at the top of the points table with 38 points, having already secured a spot in the next round. Meanwhile, the Stallions trail with 28 points, followed by the Panthers with 23 points.

The Lions, bolstered by their recent victory, hold fourth place with 12 points, while the Dolphins continue to struggle without a win. PCB insiders assure that Misbah will return shortly to resume his duties, aiming to guide the Markhors to further success in the tournament.
