Lt. Gen. Muhammad Asim Malik Appointed as New DG ISI

The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has a new head as Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik is set to assume the role of Director General on September 30. The announcement was made by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement released on Monday.

Currently serving as the Adjutant General at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Lt. Gen. Malik succeeds Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum, who held the position since his appointment in 2021 under the previous administration.

Gen. Anjum has had a distinguished military career, having led key operations in Karachi and Kurram Agency, and served as commandant of the Command and Staff College in Quetta. His tenure as DG ISI followed a significant role in managing Corps V in Karachi.

Lt. Gen. Malik brings substantial experience to his new position, having commanded an infantry division in Balochistan and an infantry brigade in Waziristan. His accolades include receiving an honorary sword during his military training.

Furthermore, Gen. Malik has held academic roles, serving as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College in Quetta. He is also a graduate of Fort Leavenworth in the United States and the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, enhancing his credentials as he steps into this critical role.
