Pakistan Sports Board Slaps Lifetime Ban on Boxing Federation President

In an update to the saga of the tumultuous time at the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), the Board of Governors (BoG) of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has followed through with the recommendations set out by the IPC Ministry inquiry committee and has imposed lifetime bans on the PBF President and Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Secretary General Khalid Mahmood and PBF Secretary General Col. (r) Nasir Ijaz Tung, preventing them from holding any future positions in any national sports federations.

In a meeting held on September 10, the BoG accepted the inquiry committee’s recommendations. Alongside imposing bans on the respective Pakistan Boxing Federation personnel, these included referring the case to the FIA as well as recovering a Rs 1 million surety bond from the officials responsible.

The PSB also directed the Director General to contact the FIA to confirm the NOCs of all athletes who claim to represent Pakistan in international events. They recommended that NOC’s should include barcodes and be made verifiable through the PSB website.
