The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced an all-female panel of umpires and match referees for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to begin on October 3 in the United Arab Emirates. The mega event will feature a panel of experienced and skilled female umpires and match referees.
The Women’s T20 World Cup panel boasts a wealth of experience, with several members having officiated in previous ICC tournaments. Claire Polosak, a veteran of the panel, will be making her fifth appearance. Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams, both with three ICC tournaments under their belts, notably officiated the final between South Africa and champions Australia at Cape Town last February.
TV umpire Sue Redfern, who umpired the match’s final, is also back for her fourth tournament. The Zimbabwean debutant Sarah Dambanevana will complete the panel. The match referee is GS Lakshmi, who officiated her first T20I in 2012 and, along with Shandre Fritz and Michell Pereira, will also be a part of the panel.
Sean Easey, ICC’s senior manager, expressed his delight in contributing to the advancement of women in cricket:
We are thrilled to have an all-female panel of umpires and match referees for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This is a significant milestone for women’s cricket, and we are proud to be at the forefront of promoting gender equality in the sport.
