Throughout his distinguished career, Chappell had received several Baggy Green caps, one of which he gave as a gift to Geoffrey Boycott which later ended up fetching $15,000 at an auction. The cap he has now lost was his last remaining Baggy Green.

Greg Chappell played in 87 Test matches during the 1970s and 1980s, scoring 24 centuries and earning a reputation as one of Australia’s finest batsmen. Additionally, it is to be noted that last year, David Warner similarly faced the theft of his Baggy Green cap, although it was later recovered.
