Virat Kohli Smashes Another Sachin Tendulkar Record

The brilliant Virat Kohli has once again broken a record that has enabled him to surpass the “Little Master” Sachin Tendulkar. During the fourth day of the 2nd Test match against Bangladesh at Kanpur, Virat Kohli became the fastest player to rack up 27,000 runs in international cricket, doing so in just 594 innings. He did this while notching up a blazing 47 runs off 35 balls before being bowled by all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

The prior fastest record to achieve this milestone of 27000 runs was set by Sachin Tendulkar and stood at 623 innings.

Virat Kohli is now the only cricketer to reach 27,000 international runs in under 600 innings. Apart from Sachin Tendulkar, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting took 650 innings to reach the same total, while former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara accomplished it in 648 innings.

In total, Kohli has achieved a remarkable total of 13,906 runs in 295 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 8,918 runs in Test cricket. In T20 Internationals, he scored 4,188 runs before retiring from the format following India’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign.

At the time of writing, India requires 30 runs with eight wickets to spare to chase down a modest target of 95 runs in the fourth inning. Winning this test will also allow India to win the test match series 2-0.
