Samsung is preparing to launch its Galaxy S25 series early next year, bringing notable changes to both design and performance. We can expect the new models to feature slightly larger displays and rounded borders on the back, while internal upgrades promise considerable improvements.
Rumors suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip will power the Galaxy S25 Ultra, providing a significant performance boost. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the base model of the Galaxy S25 will use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chip instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This move indicates Samsung’s strategy to reduce costs by broadening its chip supplier base.
The report states that the Dimensity 9400 chip is 20 percent cheaper than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, with each unit costing $155, which is $45 less than the Snapdragon’s $200. Samsung’s decision to use the Dimensity chip in the base model could be a cost-saving measure, as the smaller model may not have the same demand as the Plus or Ultra variants.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips are both being built using TSMC’s 3nm fabrication process, ensuring that performance levels remain close. This development may surprise fans who were expecting the entire Galaxy S25 lineup to feature Snapdragon chips, as earlier rumors had pointed to exclusive use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
It is uncertain if Samsung will continue to avoid using Snapdragon chips in upcoming models. For now, the base Galaxy S25 appears to offer a more affordable option by incorporating MediaTek’s chip without compromising too much on performance. Further updates will reveal more about Samsung’s approach to its upcoming flagship series.
