Pakistan’s batting inadequacies are nothing new. The team has seen bad batmen in every position and has usually relied on its copious fast-bowling resources to remain competitive.
What is of note however and should be an alarming sign for any fans of Pakistan cricket, is that Pakistan has now suffered the ignominy of having the lowest team batting averages around while playing in the 2nd innings.
Presently, across 7 of the matches played since 2023, Pakistan has managed a paltry 2nd innings batting average of 17.03 with just four fifties and one hundred. This also happens to be by far the lowest among the top nine Test-playing nations.
Sri Lanka leads the pack with a second-innings team average of 31.11, and New Zealand and India are right behind them with their second-inning averages both hovering in the 30s. Curiously, Bangladesh maintains a higher average than England, with the Bengali tigers scoring 28.58 runs per second innings in comparison to England’s 28.19. West Indies, while maintaining a higher second innings average than Pakistan, still could only post numbers similar to Pakistan, with the Caribbean Kings only managing a measly second test average of 17.44.
Here are the team’s batting average in 2nd innings since 2023:

Sri Lanka | 11 | 31.11 | 5 | 17 |
