The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has begun collecting charges for the installation of conical baffles under its geyser campaign. Consumers across the 3.2 million network have been billed an additional Rs2,085, labeled as “conical baffle” charges.
Many consumers are alarmed, receiving these extra charges even if they don’t have geysers installed at their homes. The charges were applied before the installation process had begun, further increasing public frustration.
In response, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued a clarification, explaining that the installation of conical baffles was approved to enhance safety and reduce gas consumption. OGRA advised consumers who do not own geysers but were charged to file complaints with the company or OGRA.
SSGC officials confirmed that surveys were conducted and that the charges were implemented after obtaining OGRA’s approval. Contractors have already started installing the baffles in designated areas. The company urged consumers to approach their nearest Customer Facilitation Centers (CFC) for any concerns regarding these charges.
The installation of conical baffles is part of the government’s energy conservation measures. SSGC has launched a public awareness campaign about the benefits of the baffle, which can help consumers save up to 25% on gas bills and contribute to the national gas conservation effort.
