The Sindh government has announced a new initiative allowing vehicle owners to register and transfer vehicles from the comfort of their homes. This step is part of broader efforts to modernize the province’s taxation system.
During a meeting led by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, top officials from the Excise and Taxation Department, including Secretary Mohammad Saleem Rajput and DG Aurangzeb Panhwar, discussed implementing this initiative. The new service, beginning on January 1st, will allow citizens to complete vehicle registrations and transfers online, removing the need to visit government offices.
In addition to streamlining these services, the minister ordered a crackdown on private vehicles illegally displaying government-issued license plates. Strict actions will be taken against offenders to ensure proper use of official plates.
The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has already made significant progress, achieving 34% of its annual tax revenue target in three months. Recognizing this success, Memon called for further improvements in tax collection efforts, emphasizing the importance of hitting the department’s annual targets.
To enhance transparency and convenience for the public, the minister highlighted the move toward cashless transactions, to simplify vehicle-related processes and minimize public inconvenience. He noted that the government’s efforts aim to make tax payments easier and more accessible to everyone in Sindh.
Furthermore, an online auction for premium and personalized license plates is being accelerated. The revenue generated from this auction will be used to build homes for those affected by recent floods in the region.
